Easy to use & actually makes good cappuccino.

One of the main reasons I bought this model was the Stainless Steel boiler. I found a nice Gaggia 'Coffee' for the same price in Whittards but read several reports of the aluminium boilers corrosion ..which must all end up in your cup.The other main reason for buying this model is ease of use. For a relative novice it's quite easy to make perfectly decent cappuccinos, often far better than those in cafes.Tips for using this model:..- Coffee: Tamp the coffee down very hard & get a decent crema on the espresso shot. (Illy coffee is apparently one of the few packaged coffees fine enough to use for espresso shots).- Milk: Drain off the initial hot water that squirts out of the frothing wand.-With the steam valve opened half way, froth the top of the milk into large bubbles for a few seconds.-Then plunge the wand deep & at an angle, with the valve opened up full. It'll usually run out of steam halfway through the frothing, close the steam valve until the light comes back on.-Gradually pull the wand back up as the milk slowly starts to rise.Other nice features: The cup warmer! Easy to maintain. Five year Delonghi guarantee(!)All in all, very easy to use, ideal for the beginner & should serve you decent cappuccinos ...until you start getting obsessed with the really expensive machines.

Quality cappaccino

I bought this machine after reading reviews for machines in it's price range. It has a stainless steel boiler & takes both ese pods ( Illy is one choice!!) and ground coffee. I wanted the option to use ground coffee but wanted on the whole to use an easy pod system. This offers both & the pods are quality coffee brands like Illy and not hard to get hold of now. More brands are bringing out ese pods too. They are so easy & clean & tidy to use!I wasn't successful at using the machine at first as initially I used ground coffee and forgot to prewarm cups etc. However, after a couple of goes I have it down to a fine art & it's easy & very very fast.I also use filtered water. Figured makes a better cup of coffee & saves descaling as much. The machine pre warms first- turn on, put water through the system twice when the light is on by pressing a button. This is all done in probably less than minute, takes less or same time than other machines like Tassimo. I use this preheat to warm the cups, vital!!! I let the water go through to the cup, therefore preheating it. If doing more than one I let a bit of hot water go into each cup & put them up on the cup warmer. Just before the cup has it's turn for the pod I tip out the hot water. Then I pop in a ese pod into the holder, press button, light goes out after about 20 seconds which is how long you need for the pod/espresso so I just go by the light. It goes out & I turn off. DONE!If going cappaccino- I turn on the steamer button, give it a few seconds & then turn on the arm a bit & release the hot water that it initially seems to chuck out into a spare cup & then pop the jug under for foaming. I'll admit it's good most of the time but now & again I'm not as successful as I usually am. The froth is good & looks good too but not as impressive as I've had at some good restaurants. It's good enough though & I'm fussy. Leaves a good clinging foam around the cup when you've finished. As I make them, if more than one, I pop them back up on the cup warmer- how handy!

The best introduction to proper coffee.
By ..
I've been using this almost non stop for 3 months now and it has been really excellent. I leave it on all the time so its always ready to make espresso at the touch of a button. With a little practice its much quicker than waiting for a kettle to boil and drinking dishwater instant coffee. The only down side is a couple of plastic parts, such as teh bottom of the filter basket holder and the steam wand. The steam wand produces adequate micro foam but not of a quality to make latteart, however it is repeatable and easy. The espresso is generally good although the fake crema from the autocrema looks good but isnt as good as teh real stuff. The autocrema and the compllicated steam wand are excellent at taking the skill out of making coffee, which is great at first, but after a few months of using this machine you will want to buy something a bit higher up the ladder, with more scope to improve your coffee. Having said that, this is by far the best model in the price range, looks very smart, and will give anyone a proper coffee with little time and effort.A great starter product for those new to espresso like myself, although after three months I am tempted by machines like the rancilio silvia.
