So Very Simple

The Delonghi Magnifica coffee machine is a big investment to get coffee. What you are paying for is the ultimate in simplicity and getting a consistently high quality coffee.You press one large bleary morning eyes friendly button and get a ballet of coffee noises and smells. The machine boils some water and steams the milk into your cup. It then grinds your beans and boils some more water and pours the coffee over the milk giving you a great tasting cappuccino or latte. What you don't get is any mess or any waste; everything that is used ends up in your cup or bins for coffee solids and any spilt liquids. In cappuccino mode the foamed milk has an excellent long lasting texture - and comes out hot even with milk from the fridge. The Magnifica can make straight espresso (though the button is smaller) of varying sizes if you don't fancy a milky coffee. When an espresso shot is run there is a rich crema on the top of the coffee that coats the cup all the way down as you drink it.Its very easy to setup out of the box - i looked for complexity reading the manual very carefully but its pretty much add beans, water, milk and power - then press the magic button. Once you have it working on a surface its very flexible and its worth reading the manual to understand what it can do for you. Its very simple to operate - if you want a stronger or a weaker coffee you press a button on the console and the screen tells you what its about to do so you can confirm it before you ask it to make your coffee. Once you get used to the machine console options you can even the grind of the coffee so you fine tune it into your taste preference.If you need a switch to a decaffeinated or vice versa there is an override chute and a measuring spoon to let you add pre-ground coffee powder directly into the machine. The ESAM4500's control panel will also let you program the size of your cups - to select your preferred draw of coffee and milk, or you can run the espresso and cappuccino cycles manually as and when you need to.I am overwhelmingly positive about the Magifica but it does have a few downsides; besides the price this is a large and heavy coffee machine - twice the size of the nespresso machine I was using before. It is also unable to grind mocha beans or any coated beans if that is something you like to drink - as the grinder isn't able to handle it. If you want a mocha you will need a separate burr mill to get the powdered coffee. As for the price; I have cut my costa spending down to 0 with the help of this machine so over time I will get my money back.

Superb machine

Been using this machine for around a month. Have tried beans, ground coffee, made expresso's, americanos, cappucionos etc and it makes them perfectly.My daughter also like the warm milk feature.The only problem is that now I keep buying different types of coffee experimenting !

Never having had a bean-to-cup machine before I did my research and actually settled on the ESAM 4200. After three attempts at trying to get this product in time for Christmas, completely sold out, I noticed Amazon was doing a really good deal on the ESAM4500 AND THEY COULD GET IT TO ME SUPER QUICK!! It made my husband's Christmas but be warned he gives his new baby more attention at the moment than he gives me!! It makes amazing coffee and it is super easy to use once you have made the first cup following instructions. I am a cappucino addict and my husband prefers a stronger taste this machine caters for both of us easily. It is smaller than I thought and in volume no bigger than our old filter coffee machine so we didn't have to make more space. It is very clean to use and empty, the used coffee is compressed into discs that you just empty out and it tells you when to empty and refill. The one touch milk frother is great. I know that some people complained that the milk was not frothed enough for them but I have found that using skimmed milk gives a good top to my cappucino. Is it noisy? Well less noisy than my Kenwood food mixer but obviously it does make some sound when working but nothing like the noise of large commercial machines and I really do not rate this as a negative. Is the coffee hot? We rinse our thin bone china mugs with the hot water first and use the cup warmer to keep them warm whilst setting up. MY cappucino is always good and hot and when making regulars the coffee is always at a hot temperature.Am I converted to bean-to-cup machines? OH YES!! I will never touch instant coffee again there just is no comparison. Drinking coffee from this machine has become my guilty pleasure. It also makes a good cup using ground coffee too! Was the ESAM4500 a good buy?? My husband says most definitely. Being an engineer he praises the construction of the outside and inner workings I have to say he spent the first hour on Christmas morning taking it apart to admire the construction!! OK it is not stainless steel throughout, I couldn't afford that, but it certainly is not flimsy either. The plastic parts are good and solid hopefully built to last.
